The Seven Ways
Sleep scholars have broken down the chart as follows:
- Way 1: T-shirt and sweatpants. The responsible sleeper. Prepared for sudden fires, midnight pizza deliveries, and cold floors. Pays bills on time and owns at least one candle that isn’t for show.
- Way 2: T-shirt and boxers. The compromiser. Wants comfort, wants freedom, wants to be able to get the mail without being arrested.
- Way 3: Underwear only. The chart gives this sleeper a “prohibited” sign on the shirt, which is either a dress code or a warning.
- Way 4: T-shirt only. The mysterious one. Experts say the bottom half of this sleeper is “a matter of personal philosophy.”
- Way 5: Sweatpants only. The shirtless sleeper, who has simply decided that fabric is for the lower half and the rest can fend for itself.
- Way 6: Nothing at all. Two prohibition signs, zero apologies. The most free-spirited of the group, and the one who always has the window cracked “for airflow.”
- Way 7: Socks only. The final boss. No shirt, no pants, no underwear, just two athletic socks and a confidence nobody asked for. Researchers have been unable to explain him, and he has declined to participate in the study.
The Comment That Broke the Internet
The chart’s most-discussed moment came from a commenter named Kofi Mensah, who wrote the sentence that launched a thousand stress dreams: “What kind of monster sleeps like a 4???”
The post’s creator, Xavier, did not respond with a defense, a statistic, or even a sentence. Instead, he replied with a single image of Winnie the Pooh, lying face down on the floor in his little red crop top, nothing below the waist, asleep with the peace of a bear who has never once apologized.
Legal experts say this is the most effective rebuttal in the history of internet comment sections. “Pooh has been doing this since 1926,” said one analyst. “You can’t argue with precedent. Or with a bear.”
Pooh Is Not Wrong
Critics have since attempted to find a flaw in the defense and have so far discovered that:
- Pooh has never been seen wearing pants.
- Pooh has never once been embarrassed about it.
- Pooh is, by all accounts, one of the most well-rested characters in children’s literature.
- Pooh has a deep, comforting relationship with honey, which cannot be said of Kofi.
Several respected scholars have therefore concluded that Way 4 is “not a monster, but a bear.”
