Engineers around the world have since been forced to confront a deeply uncomfortable question: where do you even begin?
The Theory
According to the diagram, the truck drives forward because the magnet is pulling it toward the metal. The magnet is attached to the truck. The metal is attached to nothing in particular. The truck, presumably, will continue to chase the metal forever, like a golden retriever following a hot dog it is also wearing as a hat.
Supporters of the design point out several advantages:
- Zero fuel costs. Gas stations are a scam anyway.
- Infinite range. Why stop when the metal never does?
- Great parking. Simply pull the arm back in and the truck will politely stop pulling itself.
- Marketing. The word “magnet” alone adds roughly $11,000 to the sticker price.
Critics argue the design violates “the laws of physics,” a group the inventor described as “not being very open-minded.”
Volkswagen Responds
In a development that stunned absolutely no one, Volkswagen weighed in 12 hours later with a corporate response for the ages: “We sent this to the engineering department and they blocked us on Teams.”
Industry analysts have called this “the most honest thing a car company has ever said publicly,” and noted that it is also one of the few times the phrase “blocked us on Teams” has been used to describe something other than a Tuesday.
