The Sister Who Was Never Supposed to Exist
They met at a coffee shop halfway between their cities.
Lauren told herself it was just coffee.
But when she saw Emily standing there with a manila envelope pressed to her chest, her knees nearly gave out.
Emily looked like her.
Not identical.
But close enough to feel like a punch to the ribs.
They sat by the window.
Emily opened the envelope.
Inside were photos. Old. Faded. A newborn baby wrapped in a hospital blanket.
Then a hospital bracelet.
