From soap opera actor, to Oscar winner!

After Sinners star Michael B. Jordan took home the win for Best Actor at the 98th Annual Academy Awards on Sunday (March 15), he received a warm greeting from Live with Kelly and Mark co-hosts Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos backstage, who got the chance to chat with him about his win.

“What?! Did you win an award?” Ripa exclaimed as she and Consuelos gave Jordan big hugs in a clip shown during this morning’s After the Oscars Show. “Oh my gosh! I wish you could’ve heard everyone back here. It was unbelievable.”

As for how the moment felt, Jordan said that “it’s really hard to process.”

“I get a rush of gratitude,” he added.

Consuelos reminded Jordan that he was on All My Children, teasing that he and Ripa also starred on the ABC soap opera “way before” him.

“Yes, yes, yes. Not way before, but yes,” Jordan quipped.

“But don’t you think that being on that soap so many years ago prepared you for playing twins?” Ripa asked, referring to his Oscar-winning performance as identical twins Elijah “Smoke” Moore and Elias “Stack” Moore.

“Without a doubt,” Jordan, who played Reggie Porter Montgomery on the hit soap opera, replied, eliciting laughs from Ripa and Consuelos. “No, I’m not even trying to be funny. I think the work ethic of soap operas is so underrated and overlooked.”

Ripa told Jordan that she and Consuelos were “truly tickled” for him in the wake of his big win.

“I couldn’t be happier for you,” she shared. “Really, we were praying.”
