The One Thing No One Expected
After a long beat, Vince nodded once.
“The restroom,” he said hoarsely. “Private.”
Claire’s hands shook as she stepped inside with the baby.
“This is insane,” she whispered — and yet her body moved with the muscle memory of motherhood.
The baby latched instantly.
Desperate.
Furious.
Starving for comfort more than milk.
And then… silence.
Not the tense silence of fear.
